Aishwarya Rai to attend Cannes on May 23-24-25 in Indian attire !!

Mumbai, May 23 (FashionKafatka): Bollywood beauty, Aishwarya Rai is likely to attend the Cannes film festival on May 24-25. The very recent buzz is about Aishwarya Rai’s outfit on the red carpet.

This prominent cultural event has always discussed about the well-dressed celebrities. Aishwarya Rai is not new to the Cannes. She has been attending this prestigious event for past 10 years and for this 65th Cannes she attending for the 11th time as a new mom.

Being the first Indian jury member of Cannes and of L’oreal’s brand ambassador, Aishwarya Rai is a subject of discussion all over. Her figure after her child birth has become an issue and all are eager to know what she would be wearing this year.

A leading daily suggests, Aishwarya will be wearing churidar kurtas and a saree designed by Sandeep Khosla-Abu Jani.

A close source said she has decided not to wear designer gowns instead go totally Indian at Cannes. While Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Abu-Sandeep and Shahab Durazi were nominated to offer her outfits, her final discussion was Abu-Sandeep.

Aishwarya will be wearing an off-white sari with antique gold embroidery and chikankari work. Then, the next outfit is churidar-kurtas, in cream and beige. Ash has chosen pastel colours this year, instead of her typical dark colours.

The source added the kurtas will be long and flowy in anarkali style. They will have heavy gold work and zari work on them. Aishwarya feels India has many to show in terms of handcrafted ensembles and beauty. And she likes to show them to the world.

Aishwarya has previously represented India in Cannes with her traditional attire. She has worn a grand heavily embellished yellow saree with heavy gold necklace and bangles in 2002, which was both criticized and complimented.

In 2003, she wore a green saree that was badly criticized by the all. She looked out-dated in that outfit.

In 2010, Aishwarya wore a Sabyasachi designed saree. The heavy embroidery and a contrast sleeveless blouse with bindi and black eye makeup gave a traditional look.

All her fans are waiting to see the new mom in the traditional attire in 2012 along with her daughter.

As Abhishek Bachchan is busy doing his dubbing for his next release, he will not be accompanying Aishwarya and Aaradhya at Cannes.

Bollywood actress and internationally-renowned beauty, Aishwarya Rai, is set to attend the 2012 Cannes Film Festival amidst recent controversy regarding the weight she gained while pregnant with her baby daughter and perception of beauty in India.

Aishwarya Rai, who gave birth to her baby girl Beti B in November, has been criticized by fans in Indian for not losing the weight she gained while pregnant. Critics poked fun at the former Miss World 1994 with heartless comments about her new body.

But Aishwarya Rai is not shying away from those who knock her.

The 38-year-old new mother will grace Cannes on May 24 and May 25, reported India Today. She will attend the L’Oreal Paris-amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research) dinner to help raise funding for HIV/AIDS research. She will bring her five-month-old daughter with her.

Rai will also flaunt her post-baby body on the red carpet as well. In the past, Rai has been a shining fashion star at Cannes, a festival she has attended since 2002. Reporter Akshata Shetty of India Today noted, “There is a lot of buzz about what Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will wear considering her post-pregnancy weight.” Rumor had it she would wear a design by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. However, the designer denied that he has any part in Rai’s wardrobe.

The baby weight controversy certainly has not depleted Aishwarya Rai’s social calendar. After Cannes, she will jet-set off to Monaco for the 17th Bal de l’Ete, scheduled from June 22 through June 24. The theme of this event is “Princess of Rajasthan,” where Rai will likely don elaborate Indian wear.

Controversy surrounding Rai’s weight gain ignited after a YouTube video entitled “Aishwarya Rai’s Shocking Weight Gain” was posted online. The clip documents Rai’s baby weight gain in photos, showcasing the most recent ones snapped at a United Nations even, complete with elephant sound effects.

“Aishwarya Rai Bachan post her pregnancy seems to be looking rather plump instead of losing some of her flab after the baby’s delivery. The Bachchan bahu seems to be taking motherhood very seriously and seems to have shockingly put on at least five to six kilos,” wrote YouTube user desimad.

Commenters poked fun at the once-svelte beauty. “She is a Bollywood actress and it is her duty to look good and fit,” said one. “She needs to learn from people like Victoria Beckham who are back to size zero weeks after their delivery,” wrote another.

Backlash flared and many were quick to defend Aishwarya Rai.

“Aishwarya is like a goddess. She is held up as the ideal of beauty and so there is an expectation on her to look perfect at all times,” show business columnist Shobhaa De told the Daily News of the fracas. “The role models being held up are Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham . . .this whole business of looking desperately skinny two weeks after giving birth is a Western import.”

If Rai shows off her post-baby curves, she could truly revolutionize societal standards for women. ”It could be a turning point in making us stop and review the absurd expectations we have of our female celebrities,” added De.

Rachel Dwyer, professor of Indian Culture and Cinema at SOAS, University of London, agrees with this notion.

“I think this baby weight thing is a western obsession with pulling stars down. Women who lose weight are congratulated and those who don’t are seen as letting themselves go. I’ve not heard of it in India before,”  she wrote in an email to ABC News.

“Women are now meant to keep themselves looking beautiful throughout their lives, not just when they are young,” she added. “Women have a tough struggle.”

What Should Aishwarya Rai Wear At Cannes?

Aishwarya Rai has become a popular and familiar face at the Cannes Film Festival. She has made 10 consecutive appearances at the Cannes film festival. From 2002 to 2011 she was regularly a part of the jury at the festival. Just for the record, she is going to the Cannes this year too! What scares us is, Aishwarya Rai’s attire. For some reason, this gorgeous diva loses her sense of fashion when it comes to Cannes!

Ash has not yet lost all her post pregnancy fat and that is another odd against her Cannes fashion statement. Here are some of the worst clothes Aishwarya Rai has chosen till date for her Cannes appearances.

Aishwarya Rai At Cannes: 5 Fashion Disasters

1. Where it all started, 2002:
When Aishwarya Rai went to Cannes for the first time, she was young and so we can excuse her sunflower yellow saree that was too bright for the eyes. She teamed up the bright saree with an old fashioned gold jewellery that weighed tons!

2. Was It Indo Western? 2003:
Aishwarya Rai’s Indo western style clothes was a fashion disaster. It was neither traditionally Indian nor exactly western and the blend was just not there.

3. Puppy Fat, 2004: The shimmering white and weirdly scooped gown did not do much to hide her tummy fat in the Cannes, 2004.

4. Transparent But Not Sexy, 2005: I guess Ash’s obsession with being different resulted in most of her fashion disasters. In 2005, the semi-transparent black dress did no good in making Aishwarya look presentable at the Cannes.

5. Was It A Sweater? 2011: Aishwarya Rai’s clothes were getting steadily better from 2006 to 2010, but last year came another shock. The nude coloured gown might have looked good if it was not woven like a blotchy sweater.

What Should Aiswarya Rai Wear At Cannes in 2012: Indian or western?

There are not many options for her designers this year. Considering the fact that she has not yet lost all her post pregnancy fat, gowns are out of question. And she should definitely get out of the sack like Anarkali dresses she has been wearing to all events. Sarees would be best to tone down the extra pounds. She should probably try long sleeved blouses because her arms have become heavy. The necklines need to be deeply cut to show some skin; the closed necks she has been wearing gives her a suffocated look.

The Cannes film festival is due in May. Hopefully, Ash will manage to lose some weight by then. Lets hope Aishwarya Rai at Cannes makes us fashionably proud this year. After all, the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor will be there to give her competition!
