The 143rd Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards was held on Thursday night at a suburban five star. Hindi cinema industry was entering its 100th year and stars – young and old- came to celebrate. Though Aamir Khan was supposed to do the honours, it was Amitabh Bachchan  who eventually unveiled the wax statue of Dadasaheb Phalke and the night began.

And that wasn’t the only glitch. For example, when Big B was called up on stage, the organisers started playing the famous Rote Huye Aate Hain Sab number from Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. However, by the time he reached the podium, the song had changed to Rekha’s famous mujra Salaame Ishq Meri Jaan from the same film. Needless to say, the Big B wasn’t too impressed. However, he continued with his task rather gracefully. He received the prestigious Phalke Ratna.

Kajol and sister Tanisha on the other hand chose to make their displeasure with the organisers evident. They were called on stage to receive an award on behalf of their mother Tanuja (the legendary actress award). Unlike most others, there was no celebrity giving away the award. Finally, after receiving the award from the bearer, the sisters did not stay long at the venue. Rohit Shetty joined them on their way out.

Ekta Kapoor received the Phalke Icon Producer Award. While receiving the award on stage, Ekta was left gaping while the host, who must have spotted Dilip Kumar enter the venue started shouting “Dilip Sahab aa gaye, Dilip Sahab aa gaye”. Ekta could only politely excuse herself and walk off stage.

Ali Zafar, (of London Paris New York fame) the recipient of the Phalke New Talent Award perhaps had the weirdest experience on his way back from the stage. While the actor was being clicked by photographers, a stranger grabbed his award and ran. His manager was later seen looking for the man who stole the award.

While some performers, like Ravi Kishen did not get to face the arc lights at all due to the absence of a flowchart of events, Nazim Rizvi’s son Azim, who was quite kicked about his first ever stage performance had to practically dance for an empty house with most celebs having left the venue.
